Patient care program
At Medical Cosmetic Centre, we have a special philosophy that guides us in everything we do for you — we call this your patient care program.
Cosmetic surgery is a specialised field that involves a detailed understanding of the most up-to-date surgical techniques and technology combined with an understanding of every patient’s physical and emotional needs.
We invest heavily in research, technology and expert staff so we can offer you the most advanced treatments that will create the best long-term results with the least amount of risk. We also invest heavily in the time it takes to understand your expectations and care for your needs — from the time you make your first inquiry until 18 months after your surgery and beyond (many patients become life-long friends!).
We believe this combination of expertise and understanding is the only way to achieve the results you want. It is not enough to offer one without the other.
You will see this combination of expertise and understanding from the moment you arrive at the clinic.
When you first visit the clinic, you will be asked to register at the reception desk. You will be served refreshments by our friendly staff and enjoy flicking through current magazines while Dr Kerry reads your registration information and prepares to see you.
During your first consultation, Dr Kerry will provide you with information that suits your individual needs. He will tell you about the procedure, ask about your expectations, answer your questions and discuss the options for achieving the results you want.
Cosmetic surgery is a form of surgery, and it’s important to remember that all types of surgery do carry some risks. Although risks and complications are rare, we discuss these openly with you and take a detailed history of any illnesses you have or medicines you are taking.
At this first consultation, you will have the opportunity to see genuine before and after pictures. We can also put you in contact with other people who have had the same procedure.
Dr Kerry will provide you with a complete information pack on the procedure you are considering. You will also receive a formal quotation.
If you choose to book your procedure, we will organise a pre-surgery consultation. At this appointment, we will complete your day surgery paperwork, including taking your full medical history, blood test, photography, and measurements. We will also take you through each step of the procedure and discuss your post-operative care.
We will ask you to nominate a person (your caregiver) who will drop you off at the clinic, pick you up after your procedure, and stay with you for 24 hours. We will give your caregiver a second set of post-operative notes outlining your care requirements and post-operative appointments. Dr Kerry prefers you to come to the clinic for a review the day after your procedure, and it may be necessary for your caregiver to assist you in attending this appointment.
Your surgery will be a surprisingly relaxing experience. The beauty of cosmetic surgery (apart from the results!) is that most procedures can be performed using twilight sedation. This is a very light anaesthetic that prevents you from feeling any pain, but allows you to recover very quickly with minimal risk of side effects.
Before you go home after your procedure, we offer you light refreshments.
With many cosmetic procedures, you will be home within a few hours and often ready to return to work and your usual activities within a few days.
If you are having a simple facial rejuvenation treatment such as medical microdermabrasion or dermal fillers, you won’t need any type of anaesthetic and can even have the treatments done in your lunch break.
After your operative procedure, we begin a personalised program of post-operative care. We follow-up with courtesy calls once a day immediately after your procedure. You will be provided with a program, clearly describing what you need to do during the days and weeks following your surgery.
You will have follow-up visits with Dr Kerry 1-day post-operatively, for stitch removal if required, and then at 6 weeks. These follow-up consultations are included in your quoted package price.
Most people find that the results of their cosmetic surgery give them a tremendous confidence boost. You may find that you are much more motivated to take better care of your health. At your follow-up consults, you will have the opportunity to discuss lifestyle changes that you may wish to make. Healthy eating, drinking plenty of water and suitable physical activity will help to enhance your surgical results.
In this way, many people find that cosmetic surgery is simply a way of opening the door to a new lifestyle where you come first.
