Eyebrow Transplantation – Adelaide
Eyebrows play an important role in framing our faces and adding depth to our eyes and other facial features. If you have thin or patchy eyebrows, it can have a big impact on your self-confidence. Modern methods of hair replacement can now be used to naturally restore eyebrows and self-confidence.
As hair replacement techniques have become more refined and affordable, and as fuller eyebrows have become more desirable over recent years, Dr Kerry’s surgical skills have increasingly been in demand to recreate natural eyebrows. Dr Kerry and Medical Cosmetic Centre are now considered Australian leaders in eyebrow transplantation procedures (which are also called eyebrow replacement or eyebrow restoration).
People can have thin, patchy, scarred or completely missing eyebrows for many reasons. Some of the common causes include:
- physical trauma — such as injuries from an accident, burns or scarring from surgery
- previous over-plucking, electrolysis or laser hair removal, which has resulted in loss of hairs
- radiotherapy and chemotherapy
- thyroid disease or other hormonal changes
Regardless of the cause, a hair transplantation technique called follicular unit grafting or FUG can often be used to carefully reconstruct eyebrows.
Follicular unit grafting involves taking microscopic grafts of your hair from the back of your scalp and transplanting them into your eyebrow area, filling in sparse areas and lengthening stunted arches. These hairs take root in their new eyebrow position where they continue to grow for a lifetime.
Eyebrow transplantation is very precise work in which Dr Kerry is highly experienced and skilled: each hair needs to be positioned into tiny incisions in just the right place and at the right angle to achieve a natural end result.
Frequently Asked Questions About Eyebrow Transplantation
Q: Is eyebrow transplantation suitable for me?
If you have thin, patchy or missing eyebrows, a consultation with Dr Kerry will help to work out the possible cause and if eyebrow transplantation is a suitable treatment option for you. Sometimes, Dr Kerry will order blood tests to help work out the cause.
At this consultation, Dr Kerry will explain how eyebrow transplantation is performed. Many patients bring along photos of eyebrow shapes that they would like for themselves.
Q: How is eyebrow transplantation performed?
Eyebrow transplantation is day surgery, performed under oral sedation and using local anaesthetic.
During the first part of the procedure, Dr Kerry numbs the back of your scalp with local anaesthetic and then removes a small strip of skin-containing hair. The hairs on the back of your scalp are genetically programmed to grow for a lifetime, so they can be confidently transplanted to your eyebrows.
Using high-powered microscopes, experienced technicians dissect the removed strip of skin to produce follicular grafts, which are your hair’s natural groupings that each contain one, two or three hairs. Dr Kerry takes great care in selecting the area of hair most suitable for eyebrows: only follicular units that contain one or two hairs are used because they produce the most natural result.
Dr Kerry then makes tiny incision marks in your eyebrow area. With surgical tweezers, he picks up the follicular units one by one and places them in the incisions at a very precise angle and spacing so your eyebrows will grow into a natural shape. All the surgery is done by Dr Kerry himself and takes approximately two hours.
Q: What happens after surgery?
You will be ready for a friend or family member to take you home a short time after your procedure. Before you go home, our staff will make an appointment for your stitch removal.
Dr Kerry will prescribe pain relief medicine, which you can take if needed.
After surgery, you will have tiny crusts where your eyebrows have been transplanted. For the first five days, it’s important to keep your eyebrows dry to reduce the chance of hairs moving or falling out. By day five, the crusts usually fall off. After these first five days, you can apply eyebrow pencil or powder.
Most people are ready to return to work and their usual social activities within two to seven days.
Q: When will I start to see the results of eyebrow transplantation?
About two to six weeks after surgery, your newly transferred hairs will fall out. This is called telogen or the sleeping phase of hair’s natural growth cycle, which Dr Kerry will explain to you.
Within about one to three months, your new eyebrows will start to regrow, where they will continue to grow for your lifetime.
Q: How do I care for my new eyebrows?
Because your new eyebrows contain scalp hairs, they will continue to grow! This means you will need to trim them regularly — usually a couple of times a month. Sometimes, a few new hairs will want to grow in the wrong direction. You can often ‘train’ these hairs to grow the correct way using gel or wax.
Apart from trimming and a bit of training, your new eyebrows are low maintenance and will stay put for the rest of your life.

I wasn’t really quoted as I wanted lots of different stuff done and some advise. I found them great, nice place and lovely staff. It was good, the doctor wasn’t on the sell. Told me to get it done in steps. Informative. I’m going back for more. It cost 650 I don’t know what prices are around I just felt comfortable. I thought that was good price but honestly I wouldn’t know. But i’m very happy with my results and the doctor had a great sense of humour.CindyDermal Fillers
